Jamal Senada consecrated as new Archdeacon

Jamal being consecrated as Archdeacon for Northern Archdeaconry in The Diocese of Kuching and Negara Brunei Darussalam by Archbishop of the Province of South East Asia, the Most Reverend Datuk Bolly Lapok.

SIBU: The Vicar of St John’s Church Sibu, Venerable Canon Jamal Senada, has been consecrated as the new Archdeacon of The Northern Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Kuching and Negara Brunei Darussalam.

The collation service ceremony for the consecration was held at St John’s Church here yesterday by the Archbishop of the Province of South East Asia, the Most Reverend Datuk Bolly Lapok.

About 700 Anglican Christians and clergy as well as the Northern Archdeaconry parishes attended the historic ceremony, and also witnessed by Assistant Bishop Solomon Cheong and Archdeacon of Central Region Sarawak, Venerable Chimbie Bunsi.

Jamal has been appointed by the Archbishop to replace Archdeacon Solomon Chong, who has been consecrated by him as Assistant Bishop in December 2014.

Hailing from Buyong Bangat, Betong, he received his early education at Issu/Bangat primary school from 1960-1963.

From 1964-1965, he continued his upper primary school education at St Augustine’s primary school Betong.

After the Common Entrance Examinations, he went to St Luke’s Secondary School Simanggang in 1966-1968, and in 1969-1970, studied at Simanggang Secondary School.

After taking the Senior Cambridge examinations in 1970, he underwent theological training at the House of the Epiphany Theological College from 1971 to 1975, and graduated with a Diploma of Theology from Australian College of Theology in February 1976.

He was made Deacon in December, 1975 and ordained Priest in August, 1976.

In 1990 he took New Testament Greek with a Greek Tutor, Reverend Canon David Durie from Australia and enrolled for a course from 1991-1993 and obtained a Licentiate in Theology from the Australia College of Theology in February, 1994.

From 1997 to 1998, he went for post graduate studies at Trinity Theological College Singapore and obtained a Master in Ministry.

On July 7, 1999 he was made Canon and a member of the St Thomas’ Cathedral Chapter Kuching by Bishop Datuk Made Katib.

In 2001-2003, he went for another post graduate study as a part-time student at Seminary Theology Malaysia in Seremban for a Master of Theology, and from there continued as a full time student until 2005, to complete his Thesis “Beyond The Church Walls: The Roles of The Iban Anglican Christian Church Leaders in Nation Building” in Sarawak, and graduated with a Master of Theology (SEAGST) South East Asia Graduate School of Theology in October 2006.

He has served for 38 years in his Priesthood serving in many parishes in the Diocese in Kuching Division, Sri Aman, Betong and Miri divisions.

He is married to Exclecia Pauline Lamus from Sri Aman.

They have four children: Truman Kempas, 34, married to Diana John Belanda with one child and now working with Land and Surveys in Betong; Prescilla Rachael (30) a graduate with Bachelor in Education (Hons) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Teaching of English as Second Language in Kanowit; Dulcie Cheredai (25) working with Pejabat Pembangunan Pertanian Bersepadu (IADA) in Samarahan; and Debbie Mendun (20) who is waiting for her STPM results.
