DAMUAN, BRUNEI-MUARA: A traditional regatta race was held yesterday at Sungai Damuan. The event was organised by the consultative councils of Kampong Pintu Malim, Sungai Lampai, Kota Batu and Mukim Kota Batu with the cooperation of the Brunei-Muara District Department.
A total of twelve categories were competed. The 20 paddlers for companies category was won by the combine teams of TAIB and BIBD Banks while the 20 paddlers for mukims was won by Mukim Kilanas team. The Brunei-Muara District team won the 10 paddlers for district category. The long-awaited race was the Open Marathon for 25 Paddlers which begun from the Lagoon at Kampong Tamoi Ujong.
The event was won by the team from Mukim Kilanas. The Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awg Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman presented the prizes. Also present was the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Dato Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Haji Awg Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
Meanwhile yesterday the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman presented the prizes to the morning events. The Brunei Muara District was the winner of the 15 paddlers for districts category. The Temburong District won the second place and the Tutong District was in third place. In the 15 paddlers for mukims was won by Mukim Kilanas. Mukim Tamoi won the second place and Mukim Kota Batu in third place.
