No rental from tenant but daggers out

SIBU: A house owner’s wife who went to collect house rent from a ‘foot-dragging’ tenant at Foochow Lane on Saturday was sent scurrying instead, chased by the tenant’s wife wielding a parang.

The wife of the security guard tenant was furious because the house owner cut off their power and water supplies.

The owner’s wife, who feared for her safety, sought police help yesterday morning.

She admitted cutting the water and power supplies as the debt from their room rental was running into a few thousand ringgit.

The owner’s wife said they rented out the four rooms of the house to four tenants, and she was the one collecting the monthly rental.

She said the aged security guard and his wife had been staying there for seven years.

“For the first two years, they paid on time. But for the other five years, they paid some months but did not pay or paid partially for other months. This accumulated to a huge debt.”

The owner’s wife said they decided to cut power and water supplies because the rest of the tenants had moved.

Despite that, she said they failed to get the couple to move on.

The owner’s wife then sought police help to persuade the last tenants to move out.

In a car theft case, police on patrol found an abandoned car near a cemetery in Bukit Aup yesterday morning.

A probe confirmed that the car was stolen on Jan 17 and police have taken the car to their station for further investigation.

The car owner had parked his car near central market on that day at 5.15am.

He returned for it at 6.30am and found it missing, then lodged a police report.
