SIBU: A piece of land in Kampung Datu Baru has been identified for the proposed construction of the new Muslim Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (Perkim) building.

Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee said the application for the land was being processed by the State Planning Authority (SPA).

“Once approved, we will make efforts to raise funds for the construction of the building.

“I will, in both my personal and elected representative capacity, ensure the building will be

built as soon as possible,” Dr Annuar said after officiating at Perkim Sibu branch’s AGM on Saturday.

On another matter, he emphasised the importance for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to stay focus on their objectives and to review them from time-to-time.

“I have always advised them to focus on achieving at least one or two, out of say 10 objectives.”

Dr Annuar made the observation that many NGOs these days were not focus on their original objectives and have diverted from them, and this he believed could be one reason people were not too keen to join.

On the other hand, he reckoned if NGOs could attain at least one or two out of their many objectives, this could draw people to join them.

“Remember, the strength of an organisation lies with its membership strength,” Dr Annuar stressed.

Meanwhile, Datin Sharifah Zaidah Syed Abdul Aziz helms Perkim Sibu branch and assisted by deputy chairperson Halimah Tuanku Fauzi.

Others in the committee are Aminah Amat, Jamelah Imit, Halimah Udin, Sharifah Fatimah Wan Hamid and Siti Aminah Chek.
