SIBU: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) is inclined to speak out for the people, and has nothing to fear for doing that.

In stating this, party president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said SUPP belonged to its members who should serve the people and not the leaders.

“It is no longer a ‘towkay’ party to serve a few leaders as in the past. We are to serve the people wholeheartedly, and to get down to the ground to hear people’s problems and to address them,” he said when addressing at the joint installation of executive committees of the party’s Bawang Assan and Pahlawan branches at the SUPP administrative office here yesterday.

Clarence Ting Ing Horth and Robert Lau Hui Yew were installed as chairmen of Pahlawan and Bawang Assan branches respectively. Earlier, Dr Sim witnessed the installation of the party’s new signboard at the administrative office which served as the office of the five SUPP local branches.

Dr Sim assured that SUPP as a whole would not have any faction as in the past, when there were Kuching, Sibu and Miri factions.

“We work together as one party to serve the interests of the people,” he pointed out.

He said the party’s central leadership would always liaise and work closely with the five local branches to render the best service to the people here, while assuring that Sibu people would not be left out from their care and service.

He said SUPP would discard its old methods and embrace new ones and frequently go down to the ground to listen to people’s plight and problems in order to solve them effectively.

“This is in tandem with the changing times. We are steadfast to render as best as we can to meet the expectations of the people to their satisfaction and work together for the benefit of all, above self-interest.”

He was confident that with the full trust and confidence in SUPP’s new leadership, the people especially the Chinese community would come forward to bring the party back to its glory days.

Earlier, Lau who spoke said SUPP would always fight for a fair and just society irrespective of race, origin or creed.

“We will always fight to maintain a democratic government, improve the economic conditions of the poor, and to promote and safeguard interests of all Sarawakians.

“We are moderate and believe in fairness. Sarawakians want electoral fairness. Our party is willing to take a stand and work to improve the system through the proper channel,” Lau stated.
