Crewman missing after falling into river

The rescuers set out in two boats searching for the crewman who fell into the river.

SIBU: A foreigner boat crewman went missing at daybreak yesterday after he slipped and fell into the river while tying a rope on the barge he was working on.

The tragedy happened at a wharf near Lanang Road when it was pouring.

His crewmate searched for him but failed to find him.

Police received a call at 9.30am and, together with rescuers from Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Department, went to the scene.

The rescuers searched the river beginning 10am, but to no avail.

The rescuers said the river current was swift, and they feared the Myanmar man could have been swept away by the current.
