KUCHING: The Kuching Vocational College at Batu Lintang here is still open for registration for their Fourth Cohort session this year.

Students who have done PT3 and wish to go for vocational training can just walk in for an interview while those who failed in an earlier application can apply again online by filling an appeal form available at www.moe.gov.my.

According to Kuching Vocational College head of public communication Baniazora Bakar, the online appeal opens today until Feb 28 or until quota has been filled.

“There are still vacancies for all programmes except the Business Management programme. Last year’s Form 3 students with a minimum of grade D for Bahasa Malaysia and grade E for English, Mathematics, Science and Kemahiran Hidup can apply.

“Come 2030, there will be a total of 1.6 million of vacancies which require skilled workers, and Kuching Vocational College is among the institutes that shoulders a huge responsibility to produce technologically and technically skilled workers,” Baniazora said when met by The Borneo Post during the Fourth Cohort session registration yesterday.

She divulged that 136 new students had signed up for pre-diploma programmes in the eight courses provided, namely Culinary Arts, Fashion and Tailoring, Accounting, Business Management, Automotive Technology, Electric Technology, Electronic Technology, and Industrial Machining.

Baniazora added that students who complete their four years and three months studies at the college would earn the Malaysia Vocational Diploma at as young as 20 years old.

“The studies here are sponsored by the Malaysian Education Ministry, and if students are not qualified to continue to Diploma, they will get a Malaysia Vocational Certificate which is equivalent to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

“Students who manage to complete their studies can go straight to the work market, become entrepreneurs or further their studies. They can continue studying at Malaysia Technical University Network (MTUN), which comprises Universiti Tun Hussein Onn, Universiti Teknikal Melaka, Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Universiti Kuala Lumpur,” she said.

Applicants attending walk-in interview are to bring their IC, PT3 result slip, PT3 mock exam result slip, psychometric evaluation as well as their sports and co-curriculum evaluation. For further enquiries, call the college at 082-420814 or Baniazora at 017-4884032.
