TENOM: The community-based rehabilitation centre (PDK ) building at Jalan Bukit Bendera here was destroyed in a fire early yesterday morning.

The semi-permanent building was used to train young persons with disabilities.

District Fire and Rescue Department chief Runzee @ Syamree Abdul Thani said his department received a distress call from the public at around 1.36am, and sent 10 personnel in a fire engine to the scene.

“The building was 70 per cent destroyed and we succeeded in controlling the spread of fire to adjacent buildings such as Pos Malaysia and Telekon Malaysia premises,” he said yesterday.

Runzee said the fire was put out at about 2.48 am and there were no casualties reported.

Losses and the cause of the fire were yet ot be determined, he said, adding that several policemen were present at the scene to assist the department in the operation to put out the fire.
