Car repossessor sentenced to death for drug trafficking

IPOH: A car repossessor has been sentenced to death by hanging, by the High Court here for trafficking in 96.1 gm of methamphetamine.

S Marimuthu, 30, was found guilty today, of committing the offence near Restoran Karisma, Jalan PBC 1, Jalan Simpang Pulai, near here at 11.45 pm on Aug 23, 2011.

Judicial Commissioner Noorin Badaruddin in her decision said the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

She said the accused’s version that it was another man named Maya who was carrying the bag containing the drugs and had left it on the table to go to the toilet, was just made up.

“The question is, does Maya exist or not,” held Noorin who also dismissed the defence’s witnesses as without credibility.

Six prosecution witnesses and three defence witnesses including Marimuthu testified in the trial which commenced on March 2, 2012.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor How May Ling while the father of two, aged four and six years, by counsel Ranjit Singh Sandhu.-Bernama
