Sarawak kabaddi appoints new patron

KUCHING: Sarawak Kabaddi Association (SKA) has begun a new chapter with the appointment of Siva Kumar G as their new patron.

An installation ceremony was held in Penview Inn on Tuesday night for Siva who is Asia PR managing director and chief executive officer. He said he was already planning to expand the sport and has already lined up a few sponsors. He also promised to put his plans into effect in the next few months.

Meanwhile, SKA founder and past president Jacob Sebastian said he can foresee a great future for the association blessed with Siva as the new patron.

“We have a very hardworking committee, and we want the necessary support to bring in foreign coaches to inject new life into our training,” he said. They also plan to expand the sport to primary schools.

SKA president Ramachandran Ramasamy said that they have sent participants to Sukma and various international tournaments despite the sport being not as popular as many sports in Sarawak.

“We have four players selected to train for the Asian Games, and we’re planning to send teams to Kuala Lumpur next month in preparation for Sukma,” he added.

Kabaddi is a contact sport which originated in Ancient India.
