Head of State graces final day of International Energy Week

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud graced the final day of the International Energy Week yesterday by visiting the exhibition booths at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

He spent more than an hour at the exhibition area, touring all the booths before adjourning for lunch.

Joining him during the tour were State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Promotion of Technical Education) Datu Len Talif Saleh and State Planning Unit director Datu Ismawi Ismuni who is also the IEW organising committee chairman.

This year’s IEW, hosted by the state government, saw a bigger participation with over 100 exhibiting companies from 16 countries; namely Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States of America, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand.

Major exhibitors and sponsors included Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Petronas, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Sarawak Shell, JX Nippon Oil, Alstom, Toshiba and Three Gorges while Sarawak companies were also well represented by Bintulu Port, Brooke Dockyard, Brooke Renewables, Naim, Sarawak Cables and Trienekens.

Its opening on Tuesday was officiated by Industrial Development Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, representing Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

The opening ceremony also witnessed a keynote address by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who delivered a talk on ‘Harnessing Sustainable Energy Towards 2020’ to a packed audience.
