MIRI: The action taken and words spoken by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem since his appointment as chief minister last year proves that he walks the talk in upholding the interests and well-being of Sarawakians throughout the state.

Assistant Minister of Agriculture (Farmers Organisation) and Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Sylvester Entri said this when visiting Long Maro, Kampung Benawa and Beluru over the weekend.

“All the steps taken by our chief minister indicate that he has the interest of the people at heart, and it is only right that we reciprocate with our support for his leadership,” he said.

He pointed out that Adenan meant it when he said he wanted to see religious freedom and social harmony in the state, and by cracking down on crimes and instituting people-friendly changes in the state.

Adenan was sworn in as the fifth chief minister of Sarawak on Feb 28 last year, succeeding Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who was elevated as Head of State.

Among his traits, Entri said, is his determination to uphold racial and religious harmony, banning religious bigots and extremists from entering the state, lowering power tariff and cracking down on illegal logging and cyber gambling in the state.

Entri also said the chief minister requested for higher oil and gas royalty for the state from the federal government.

Even his first state budget emphasised on rural development and meeting the needs and aspirations of the rural populace, Entri added.

Meanwhile, the assistant minister, who is also Teras secretary-general and Marudi assemblyman, gave out RM173,220 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to 14 recipients at his service centre in Beluru on Wednesday.

The recipients included NGOs, village security and development committees and clubs in Tinjar and Bakong.

Also present at the function were community leaders, longhouse chiefs and local councillors.
