Man jailed 8 years for robbing 2 brothers

KUCHING: A man was sentenced to eight years in jail after he pleaded guilty to robbery before a Sessions Court here yesterday.

Mohamad Shahdan Aramzi, 19, robbed two brothers of their mobile phones at Jalan Landeh at Mile 10 Jalan Kuching-Serian at about 6.30pm on Dec 15 last year.

He was convicted under Section 392 of The Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same Act.

Also in the Sessions Court, a man was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and four lashes for causing serious injuries to his brother-in-law.

James Bonny Chahat, 30, was charged with using a machete to slash the shoulder of his 47-year-old brother-in-law at Mile 56 of Jalan Serian-Sri Aman at about 8.30pm.

He was convicted under Section 326 of The Penal Code which carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and fine or lashes.

In an unrelated case, the Sessions Court sentenced four men to eight years in jail and four lashes each for robbery.

Zukarno Johari, 30, Mohd Saprie Rael, 25, Mohd Haslam Zakaria, 21, and Abdul Malik Abdullah, 27, were charged for robbing an Indonesian man at knifepoint, taking his money and handphone at Jalan Masjid here at about 10am on Jan 21.

They were convicted under Section 395/397 of The Penal Code.
