KOTA KINABALU: Police are still carrying out investigation on an incident where a local man was allegedly attacked by six unidentified men at the Inanam night market on Sunday.

City police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said police were still trying to identify the identity of the suspects in the 6pm incident.

“No arrest has been made at the moment and we are still investigating the case.

“Police also urge anyone with information to come forward to assist us in our investigation,” he said yesterday.

The incident allegedly took place on January 25 around 6pm at the Inanam night market when a group of six men attacked the 36-year-old victim after the latter approached and told a group of children not to play by the roadside out of concern for their safety.

According to the victim’s police report, several minutes later, six unidentified men came and punched him on the face and head.

The victim had posted the police report and the incident on his Facebook resulting in reactions by netizens who assumed that it was the doing of illegal immigrants.

Most of the comments posted on the thread pointed to the illegal immigrant issue in the state.

A user had also posted a comment saying that Sabahans can expect more of such incidences in future as Inanam, Menggatal and other major towns in Sabah had shown a consistent influx of foreign immigrants.
