BELURAN: The Security and Social Crime Prevention Task Force, an enforcement body established by Umno Beluran Division, started their patrolling duty in collaboration with the police patrol recently.

The task force aims to protect the security of villagers in Beluran particularly in Sugut as there was an allegation claimed by local villagers that some plantation companies in the area has hired illegal foreign workers.

Action taken by these plantation companies is seen as a threat to the security and well-being of local villagers as teenagers are allegedly influenced by drug pushers.

Sugut assemblyman Datuk James Ratib said the establishment of the security task force which was also participated by youth will prevent youths from committing crime and getting involved in drug activities.

“This task force will be the ‘eyes’ of enforcement unit such as police monitoring and thus reporting to them (police) on any crime that happens in their respective villages,” he said when contacted yesterday.

The establishment of the task force was also welcomed by district chief police, Supt. Sivanathan Velautham.

Apart from police, the task force also welcomed the Immigration Department, National Registration Department, RELA and several other enforcement agencies to participate in the task force community.
