Technician denies possessing stolen iPad

KOTA KINABALU: A technician claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to possessing a stolen gadget.

Shahindra Gani Mohamad, 35, who was brought before magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar, was alleged to have kept the stolen iPad belonging to a woman aged 30 in front of an apartment in Penampang at 3.50pm on January 20.

The offence was framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of five years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

The magistrate fixed February 13 for the case management and released the accused on a bail of RM3,000 with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

The accused was represented by counsel Ram Singh.

In a separate case, 33-year-old Jamali Jali faces two charges of possessing house breaking tools and consuming syabu.

On the first count, the accused had pleaded not guilty to possessing the tools namely a torchlight, two screwdrivers, several spanners and crowbar at the roadside of Sinsuran 3 here at 3.30am on January 24.

The charge was framed under Section 18 (e) of the Sabah Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a maximum six months’ jail, upon conviction.

The second count accused Jamali of consuming syabu at Karamunsing police station on January 24.

No plea was recorded from the accused for the alleged offence under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years, upon conviction.

The court fixed February 13 and March 6 this year for the case management and mention, respectively.

The accused was granted bail of RM3,500 with two local sureties for both the charges.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Syahrin Ali appeared for the prosecution.
