KENINGAU: Police arrested three people, including a woman and a child, for suspected involvement in drug abuse opposite a secondary school here on Thursday.

“Police also seized syabu weighing about 100.60 grams from a suspect,” said District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Douglas Nyeging Taong here yesterday.

Speaking at a press conference at the district police headquarters here, he said the suspects are a 41-year-old local man from Kampung Inanam Laut, a woman aged 21 from Penampang and a 10-year-old girl from Kampung Inanam Laut.

Both the woman and child are believed to be foreigners as they did not possess any valid documents, he said.

Douglas said that on Thursday at about 11.10 pm, acting on information from the public, the complainant who is a police officer led a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division using public transport to tail the suspect’s vehicle.

He said police had trailed a white Alza vehicle from Kampong Bariawa Ulu to SM Teknik Keningau on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse activity.

According to him, the Alza vehicle was successful detained at the roadside in front of SM Ken Hwa here.

“When the vehicle was stopped, a man from the driver seat came out to the front and dropped a black object on the road before he was caught by the police,” he said.

Douglas said the complainant then inspected the object dropped by the suspect and found that the black plastic contained two packets of transparent crystal clear lumps suspected to be syabu drugs.

He said further inspection on the vehicle found the woman and the girl but police did not find any illegal items in the vehicle.

“The complainant seized the drugs, arrested all the suspects and brought them to police headquarters for further investigation.

“The estimated weight of the drugs is 100.60 grams and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

“The man and woman suspects were positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine through urine test while the child suspect is negative of any kind of drug,” he said.

Douglas said that the three suspects will be remanded until February 6 for further investigation.
