32 big bikers cruise along 2,300km journey in ‘Borneo Ride 2015’

BON VOYAGE FOR A WILD RIDE: Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah flagging off the ‘Borneo Ride 2015’ convoy at Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suites in Kuching. The Honda Goldwing big bikers will undergo a 10-day, 2,300-km journey bound for the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) area, via the Pan-Borneo stretch.

KUCHING: A total of 32 riders from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia on board their powerful Honda Goldwing motorcycles are now on their 10-day road trip along the Pan Borneo stretch, covering a journey of 2,300km before reaching their destination, the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) area.

The ‘Borneo Ride 2015’ is aimed at promoting unity among participants from the three countries, according to G20 Goldwing Malaysia Association secretary-general Sulaiman Samiaam.

“The convoy also aims to explore the beautiful sights and sounds of Sabah and Sarawak, where we will highlight our mission to promote unity and friendship among participants from the three countries,” he told reporters prior to the convoy’s flag-off at a hotel here yesterday.

Sulaiman said the organiser also aimed to assure all that Sabah is now safe; hence, having

ESSCom as the final stop for the convoy where there will be a celebration.

“We also wanted to show that through motorcycle-riding, we set aside protocols as everyone irrespective of who they are, is equal among the group. We want to nurture that spirit of brotherhood in all our members,” he said.

Sulaiman also hoped that through such programme, youngsters would gain interest in motorcycle-riding, highlighting the fact that it was not at all about racing.

“We want to generate the interest in motorcycle-riding where we continue to push the limit of our abilities. I can tell you that this 2,300km journey will truly test the strength and capability of participants.”

Earlier on, Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah hoped that all participants, especially those from Singapore and Indonesia, would enjoy the beauty of Borneo and promote it back home.

“Be safe on the road,” he advised the riders prior to the flag-off.

The ‘Borneo Ride 2015’ also received support and assistance from various local motorcycle clubs.
