Motorcyclist killed in collision

TAWAU: A motorcyclist died after an accident involving two vehicles and two motorcycles at the junction of Taman Da Hua 3, Jalan Bunga Raya here on Friday morning.

District police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said the accident occurred at about 11.30am involving a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Perodua Kancil, a Yamaha LC motorcycle and a Yamaha Lagenda motorcycle.

Initial investigation found that the Land Cruiser driven by a 63-year-old man had hit the back of the Kancil driven by a 66-year-old retired woman, which was ready to turn into the junction.

At the time of the accident, the driver of the Land Cruiser was on his way from Taman Thien Vun to Taman Hotspring Jaya.

Awang said the Kancil driver lost control and collided with a Yamaha LC motorcycle from the opposite lane while the Yamaha Lagenda motorcycle was able to escape but collided with the Land Cruiser.

“The 30-year-old rider on the Yamaha LC motorcycle was unconsciousness at scene of the incident and was sent to the hospital for follow-up treatment.

However, he died at about 1pm on the same day. The drivers of the Land Cruiser and Perodua Kancil escaped unhurt,” he said.

According to him, the other rider on the Yamaha Lagenda motorcycle left the scene after the incident and police are still looking for him.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and witnesses are urged to contact the police to assist in the investigations.
