Bartender on the rocks for drug after car chase

MIRI: Police arrested a 28-year-old bartender after they stopped him in a car chase at MDL Garden yesterday morning.

The incident occurred around 9am when police spotted him driving in a very suspicious manner at a junction.

According to sources, the suspect tried to speed off but police managed to corner his car after a chase. Upon inspection of the suspect’s car, police found 24 small plastic packages containing what is believed to be syabu.

Miri police chief ACP Gan Tian Kee, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

“The suspect has been brought to Miri central police station (CPS),” he said.

The suspect was also tested for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 29(A)(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

Meanwhile, a couple was rounded up by narcotics police during a operation on a rented house in Taman Tunku.

In the 10am raid yesterday, police also seized one small plastic packet believed to contain syabu on the suspects.

Both later tested positive for drugs.

The offence is framed under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
