KAPIT: Folk from nine longhouses along Sungai Song in Song District held a ‘miring’ ceremony recently to appease the spirit so as to ensure that work on an electrification project would proceed smoothly.

“We don’t want any bad things to befall on the contractors and their workers,” said Tuai Rumah Sylvester Panau at the site.

The project would involve laying a cable across Batang Rajang and erecting overhead cables to the nine longhouses, which houses 709 people.

It would also benefit 10 individual houses and SK Nanga Selibut in the area.

Sylvester thanked the government, especially Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, and Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan, for making their dreams come true.

“When the government first announced the proposed rural electrification project, there was mixed reactions among the people. Some did not believe the project will materialise.

“However, now all of them are grateful to the government for fulfilling its promise,” he said.
