KUCHING: Kuching folks will get a chance to enjoy this Chinese New Year with a twist, with performances from a pair of Taiwan Hokkien Lion King apart from the traditional lion dance.

The Dragon and Lion Dance Association Kota Sentosa, Kuching, has just welcomed a pair of these new lions to add on to its list of performances.

The eye-dotting ceremony was performed by Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang and a sponsor, Lai Siaw Kang, at the 7th Mile San San Bong Temple yesterday.

The Taiwan Hokkien Lion King has a smaller and lighter head than the traditional lion, but still requires two pugilists per lion. The association obtained one in red and another in green.

The association will be making its lion dance rounds at various premises during Chinese New Year and the public who happen to pass by should not miss the chance to watch the rare show of cultural heritage.
