BRUNEI-MUARA: Two foreign men, whose immigration passes had expired, and a foreign woman, who was ordered to leave Brunei but failed to do so, were detained in an immigration operation which targeted several areas in Brunei-Muara District yesterday, Brudirect reported.
One of the male suspects, whose visitor’s pass had expired on September 2, 2014, was caught in a raid at a rented room in Mukim Sengkurong, according to a press release from the Immigration and National Registration Department.
The other male suspect, whose visitor’s pass had expired on July 30, 2014, was detained at another rented room, also in Mukim Sengkurong.
The female suspect, who was caught by religious authorities in 2012 and ordered to leave Brunei by January 23, 2014, was detained in a raid at a workers’ hut in Mukim Pengkalan Batu.
Ten workers were also detained in a surprise inspection at a rented house, which was used for a catering business and as workers’ quarters in Mukim Berakas.
The suspects were believed to have misused their immigration passes by working part-time as dishwashers.
Their passports and identity cards have been withheld and letters were sent to their employers, requesting them to assist in investigations.
Ten officers carried out the operation which was codenamed Ops CEKUP.
