Family cheats death after 4WD plunges down ravine

MIRI: A couple and their two-year-old daughter escaped death after the four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle they were travelling in plunged nearly 20 metres down a ravine yesterday.

Pius Bilong Apoi, 45, was driving his wife Hilda Sulau Tuchin, 41, and daughter Odhylia Pius when he some how lost control of the 4WD at KM19 Marudi-Miri road around 9.30am.

Both Hilda and Odhylia were in the front passenger seat when the accident occurred.

Passers-by contacted the Marudi Fire Station around 9.45am and a rescue team was despatched to the scene, located around 20km from the station.

Miri Zone Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong confirmed that a report had been lodged on the accident.

“All victims managed to escape from the car and suffered minor injuries only.

“The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics from Marudi Hospital, while his wife and daughter were sent to Miri Hospital for treatment,” he said.
