KOTA BAHARU: The Kelantan police have stepped up efforts to hunt down a suspect known as Nuar Ayam, who is believed to be involved in an armed robbery at a hardware shop in Bachok on Thursday.
State police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the operation to trace the 37-year-old man had extended all the way to the state’s border with Thailand.
“We have tightened the border areas and have held operations to hunt him (Nuar Ayam). I have informed all the officers in every district because there is a possibility he may run to another state but we will not let him escape.
“The police are hunting him and as of now, we have positive development in this case, just give us some time,” he told reporters after a passing out parade at Pengkalan Chepa here, yesterday.
He said his department was also in the midst of identifying two other suspects who were involved in the case, believed to be in their mid-30s.
In the 5.45pm incident on Thursday, a businessman was killed while his daughter was injured when they were shot in an armed robbery involving three masked men at the shop.
Victim Mustafa Sidek, 52, sustained gunshot wounds on his abdomen and right leg and died on the way to Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian here, at 7.40pm the same day.
The victim’s daughter, Ainul Wahida, 18, sustained a gunshot wound on her right leg and was sent to the same hospital for treatment and is now reported to be in stable condition.
The victim’s wife, Norhaizan Mat Zin, 45, and employee Mohd Azrien Mohd Nasir, 27, who had been handcuffed by the criminals, were however unharmed. — Bernama
