MIRI: A reinforced concrete (RC) bridge will be built soon to connect RPR Batu 6 and Piasau Utara, and this project will benefit more than 200 families.

Miri City Council’s deputy chairman (City Service Standing Committee) Bruce Chai said the project had been approved and that the dual-way bridge would measure 28 feet by 50 feet.

“To be built not far from the RPR football field, it will be from RPR Batu 6, crosses the drainage channel, and on to Piasau Utara 4,” he said when met at Pujut Resident Committee gathering at Taman RPR on Sunday.

Chai, who is also the councillor-in-charge of Pujut Resident Committee (RC), said RPR Batu 6 residents had been requesting for this bridge for a long time as it was dangerous for them to make U-turns at Pujut 8, heading towards the city centre.

Road accidents frequently occurred in the area, he said, adding that some motorists thus drove to Lutong to make U-turns, as a precautionary measure.

Chai said the drainage system at the project site would also be improved to mitigate floods.

On an unrelated issue, he told the council, through its landscape department, had replaced the football goal post and trimmed the trees in the area.
