KUALA LUMPUR: Police will be calling up Penang state executive councillor Chong Eng to assist in the investigation over her criticism about a Friday sermon.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar through his Twitter account tonight said Chong Eng would be investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code.

“Police have repeatedly warned the public to be careful when making comments that touch on racial and religious sensitivities, but the warnings have been ignored,” he said.

Online media today reported that Chong Eng in a statement today had criticised the Friday sermon by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) entitled ‘Aurat: Antara Kebebasan dan Maruah Diri’ (Aurat: Between Freedom and Dignity).

The report quoted Chong Eng as saying that the message by Jais gave “misleading information on rape, smacks of victim-blaming, and shows male bias in religious leadership”. — BERNAMA
