KUCHING: A teacher from Taman Matang Jaya fell victim to a daring snatch thief when she was about to leave her house yesterday morning.

The 46-year-old victim told police she had just reversed her car out of the porch around 6.20am when a man wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet rushed up and opened the rear right passenger door.

The man then reached inside and grabbed her handbag before escaping on a motorcycle which he had parked
close by.

The incident happened so fast that the teacher was unable to properly identify the type of motorcycle used by the thief or its licence plate number.

Among the items reported stolen included over RM100 in cash, a mobile phone and a number of personal
documents. Police are investigating.

In another case, a family from Kampung Gerung at Mile 24 Jalan Puncak Borneo lost a number of household items after thieves broke into their house in their absence.

The incident was discovered around 10pm on Wednesday when one member of the family arrived home and saw it ransacked.

The items stolen by the thieves, who entered via a bathroom window, included electrical and electronic items, a gold ring, a sewing machine and gas cylinders. A police report of the break-in has been lodged.
