SIBU: A 17-year-old who pleaded guilty to raping and sodomising a seven-year-old girl was yesterday released by the Sessions Court here on RM10,000 bail with two sureties. The court adjourned the case to March 11 pending the report from the welfare officer.
The rape charge was framed under Section 376(2)(e) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of between five and 30 years as well as possible caning.
The second charge came under Section 377(c) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of between five and 20 years, and possible caning. He committed the offences around 8am in the middle of last month at a construction area in Ulu Sungai Merah.
In a separate case, Hanizam Seri, 32, will be jailed for three months after he pleaded guilty in a magistrates’ court to impersonating a police officer and theft. The first charge was filed under Section 170 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to two years in jail or a fine or both. He was sentenced to one month in jail for the first charge.
The second charge was framed under Section 380 of the same Code, which provides for up to 10 years in jail and a possible fine. He was fined RM2,000, which he defaulted for two months in prison. Hanizam committed the offences on Feb 9 around 10.30pm at a shop in Kampung Nyabor Road. He presented himself as a police officer from Bukit Aman when approaching the shop owner and then stole a pendrive and Bluetooth earpiece.
