“We are expecting some 250 anglers to register for the event including both genders.

“With each fishing competition, especially the Miri River Mouth event, we see a gradual increase in the number of participants especially the ladies,” he added.

Meanwhile, second and third placed winners of the competition will win a cash prize of RM1,000 and RM500 respectively, along with trophies.

The fourth and fifth winners will receive cash prize of RM200, whereas sixth to 10 placing take home consolation prizes of RM50 and RM30 for 11th to 20th placing will also be given.

The fishing competition counts ‘live’ catches that weigh a minimum of 300gm and above.

Lo said the River Mouth fishing competition aims to promote fishing as an outdoor leisure sport as well as giving awareness to the public on the fishing ethics of ‘catch and release’ technique.

“Another objective is that Miri Anglers Club wants to foster an environmentally-friendly community through its river cleanliness awareness,” he added.
