KOTA KINABALU: Two young men were arrested in connection with a fight that resulted in a 17-year-old student getting stabbed several times.

The suspects, aged 18 and 23, were detained by the police during an alcohol test at the traffic police station in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

City police chief ACP M Chandra said the victim, who lived at Kampung Sungai Damit, and two of his friends were heading for Anjung Senja opposite Promenade Hotel at 12.01am yesterday in a Perodua Kancil.

As the victim was crossing the road, the victim and a Perodua MyVi driver had a misunderstanding, and a fight erupted.

Fifteen unknown men from nearby also joined in the fight.

“As a result, the victim sustained a seven-centimetre injury on his head and seven stab wounds on his back,” Chandra said.

The victim’s friend immediately sent him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Two for treatment. The victim is now in stable condition.

At 3.38am on the same day, a traffic officer at Kota Kinabalu traffic police station reported that the two men believed to be involved in the case had been detained during an alcohol test.

Chandra said the two suspects would be investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons in a riot.

He urged the public to provide information of the case to the police.
