Bintulu Petronas League enters 21st year

BINTULU: Project Park beat Binda 1-0 in the opening match of 2015 Petronas Cup league at Bintulu Stadium last Sunday.

The solitary goal was scored by Samsu Alam Abd Samad in the 31st min.

A total of 10 teams – Project Park, Binda, Legend A United, ABF, UPM, IPD Bitulu, MLNG A, BPJ FC, Twister and GS Petronas – are vying for the league championship.

The tournament was kicked off by MLNG Project Delivery Department general manager Hudal Firdaus.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Bintulu Development Authority general manager Datu Mohidin Ishak and Bintulu Football Association president Duke Janteng.

Meanwhile, nine teams are competing in the Division 2 league.

In the opening matches on Feb 7, Lakin thrashed MLNG 4-1, MAB drew 2-2 with Fathir and MMEA SC won 1-0 against Y Crane. The other participating teams are IPD Bintulu B, Kebabin FC and Legend United B.

According to Duke, both leagues will be played until May at three locations namely Bintulu Stadium, UPM field and Dewan Suarah artificial turf.

He also expressed his gratitude to Petronas for sponsoring the Bintulu league for the past 21 years.

Among the objectives of the leagues was to select the two top teams to represent Bintulu in the Sarawak Championship League to be held at the end of the year.
