MIRI: A foreign man from a neighbouring country was arrested on suspicion of a car theft here, during a roadblock operation codenamed ‘Ops Lejang’ at KM6 Jalan Miri-Bintulu yesterday morning.

The unemployed man in his 50s was stopped by Miri Road Transport Department personnel at the roadblock, when he was spotted approaching in a suspicious manner by officers on duty.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the car used by the suspect had been reported missing in Bintulu back in 2007.

Department personnel immediately alerted Miri police, who took the suspect to Central station here for investigation.

During inspection, police also found a modified car key on the suspect.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had been using a fake plate number on the car to avoid detection.

The car was seized and brought to the Central station.

Meanwhile, Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, when contacted, confirmed the arrest made and that the case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
