TEMERLOH: The National Security Council (MKN) has been urged to probe claims that more than 1,000 heads of families affected by the recent floods have not received the government’s compassionate aid of RM500.

UMNO supreme council member, Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin said only 3,000 families of the more than 4,000 families in Temerloh district affected by the floods were registered as they were evacuated to flood relief centres.

He said more than 1,000 families who put up with relatives and neighbours were not registered and have yet to receive the aid, despite badly needing it.

“In this regard, MKN must promptly investigate and ensure those left out are also given the aid,” he told reporters after handing over compassionate aid to 1,500 heads of families of flood victims in Semantan state constituency at the SJK Cina Khee Chee, here yesterday.

Mohd Sharkar, who is also the State Tourism and Culture Committee chairman said the state government, via the Pahang Foundation, allocated RM2.4 million to help students affected by the floods, with each given RM120.

In Temerloh district alone, 3,911 students were listed for the aid, said the Lanchang State Assemblyman. —Bernama
