Razali slams Kit Siang over ‘freedom for Anwar’ statement

MUAR: A deputy minister yesterday slammed Lim Kit Siang for saying that opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim may be released from jail if they win the 14th general election (GE14).

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Razali Ibrahim said the statement shows the opposition wants to interfere in the judiciary.

“It is to reassure supporters that their struggle is correct although they are actually in the wrong.

“Only a pardon by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will free Anwar but Kit Siang seemed to say that the law is in his hands.

“Releasing a person found guilty by the court is meddling in the affairs of our judicial system,” he told reporters after visiting Muar MCA division chief Tay Puay Chuan in Sri Menanti, Parit Jawa, here.

Razali, who is also UMNO Supreme Council member and Muar member of parliament, said the DAP adviser wanted to portray that Anwar was persecuted.

It was to arrest the declining support after the Federal Court decision on Feb 10 to uphold the five years’ jail sentence on Anwar for sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.

“I urge all parties to stop using Anwar’s case to gain sympathy and to stop accusing the judiciary as biased.

“Kit Siang wanted to confuse the people what with the Chempaka and Permatang Pauh by-elections looming,” he added. — Bernama
