SEREMBAN: An unoccupied Kia Sorenta car burst into flames in the parking lot near a building in Senawang Business Park near here, early yesterday.

An eyewitness, Mohd Faeizal Aidel Rosli, 22, said he and four of his colleagues who worked in an insurance company on the top floor of the building heard a loud explosion at 4am and rushed downstairs to check on what was happening.

“The car is owned by my employer but I use the vehicle to carry out work related tasks or to do purchases. My friends and I tried to put out the fire with water and fire extinguishers but were not successful.

Then I immediately contacted the fire department,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, Senawang Fire and Rescue Station chief, Mohamad Faiz Sulaiman, said seven firemen and a fire engine rushed to the scene.

The fire was extinguished in 37 minutes. No injuries and casualties were reported. However, 80 per cent of the car was burned. “We are still investigating the cause of the fire and the estimated loss,” Mohamad Faiz said. — Bernama
