KUCHING: ECS ICT Bhd (ECS) has announced that it will officially distribute Microsoft Lumia smartphones nationwide, effective immediately.
The group’s wholly-owned subsidiary, ECS Astar Sdn Bhd, was appointed by Finland-based Nokia Sales International Oy, a subsidiary of Microsoft Mobile Oy, to be distributor of Microsoft Lumia smartphones for the Malaysian IT Channel and Consumer Electronics Chain Stores nationwide.
Soong Jan Hsung, chief executive officer of ECS said, “We are heartened by the opportunity to extend our partnership with Microsoft through its new smartphone range, which is an excellent addition into our distribution portfolio alongside Microsoft’s software products and Surface tablet PCs.
“Awarding distributorship to ECS for the IT Channel and Consumer Electronics Chain Stores nationwide demonstrates Microsoft’s confidence in ECS’ ability to efficiently distribute premium products to reach the targeted markets.
“We are confident of replicating our successful partnership with Microsoft for this new smartphone range, as we have done with Microsoft’s other product segments.”
ECS Astar Sdn Bhd will distribute Microsoft’s range of Lumia smartphones comprising four models at present, namely the Lumia 930, Lumia 830, Lumia 735 and Lumia 535.
According to ECS’ press statement, the International Data Corporation in July 2014 forecasted that Malaysia’s smartphone sales is expected to grow steadily to US$2.4 billion in 2015, as compared to US$2.2 billion in 2014.
This signifies an eight per cent growth year-on-year, driven by various factors including the availability of more affordable smartphone models in the market.
