KOTA KINABALU: Putatan Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh still believes in the Barisan Nasional (BN) concept and is of the opinion that it is the best for the people and country.
He is however saddened by the action of a few BN leaders which have tarnished the coalition’s image.
“The concept of BN is still the best and I can reassure everyone that I am still very happy with the BN under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. What I am sad with is the action of one or two BN leaders that destroyed the image of BN.
“We are all aware that the opposition composition cannot run the government as they all have opposing ideologies. Therefore BN is still the best,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Mojigoh who is Upko vice-president and treasurer general, also touched on the general sentiments of the people who are unhappy with the action of some of BN leaders. The unhappy constituents have confronted him about this, he said, adding that as an elected representative, it is his duty to air out their grouses to the government.
Mojigoh reiterated that he will not be seeking re-nomination in the 14th general election as he wants to make way for the younger generation to lead.
“I decided that three terms of being a wakil rakyat (elected representative) is enough. In fact I am now taking a break to recuperate from a bout of bad flu and fever which had ailed me since the Chinese New Year walkabout.
“I will finish my term as MP and serve the constituency to my best of my ability as usual.
“I will remain active in my party in whatever position that I may hold,” he said, adding that while he had received words of encouragement from many quarters, his decision not to seek re-nomination was purely personal.
“I am getting old and get tired easily, therefore the younger generation should be given an opportunity to represent the people as the political scene is now different compared to the past,” he pointed out.
On Deputy Chief Minister cum Petagas assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin’s statement that Mojigoh is free to join the opposition if the latter is not happy with BN, he said that the former had said that so many times that he was immune to it.
“I am not surprised Yahya would say that to me. I am used to that and I think I am immune to hearing such comments from him,” he said.
Mojigoh however stressed that it is bad taste for some BN leaders who provoke him to join the opposition.
“I apologise if I have offended anybody with my previous statement but I was just being sincere and being honest to myself. When I questioned the state government’s move to ban DAP leader Teresa Kok from entering Sabah, it does not mean that I want to join DAP,” he said.
Mojigoh said BN is strong enough not to be worried about Teresa and was of the opinion that the move to ban her from entering Sabah may backfire on it.
