MIRI: Sarawakians have high hopes on Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem as he had made his leadership felt across the state in less than a year in office.
Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang said, generally, the people were looking forward to a better standard of living as the Chief Minister had changed the political, social and economic landscape significantly.
“He (Adenan) wants the rakyat to enjoy low electricity tariff, stopped illegal logging activities and corruption, and is fighting for an increase in oil royalty from the current five per cent to 20 per cent,” he said after he had met Miri Malay Charitable Trust Board (LAKMM) executive secretary Jamil Bujang here yesterday.
Ahmad Lai said this when asked for his views on Adenan, who became the fifth chief minister of Sarawak on Feb 28 last year.
Adenan defended the rights of the people and protected them from possible chaos and disunity by stopping extremists at the gate, Ahmad Lai added.
“It is the vision and mission of our chief minister to keep the people united to further develop the state.”
Ahmad Lai opined that the rural areas would develop faster as Adenan had said many times that he was focusing on developing the rural areas.
Earlier, Ahmad Lai, who is also LAKMM deputy chairman, handed over a RM10,000 donation for flood victims in the state and in the peninsula. Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (Miri) head Marini Juraibi received the donation on behalf of the victims.
Ahmad Lai also presented RM300 each to two families whose houses in Pujut 4 were razed by fire on Feb 15.
