KUCHING: A Chinese Ink Painting Workshop will be held at GEN Education Hub on Saturday (Feb 28) featuring two respected and renowned local artists.

Master Prof Datuk Dr Wilson Yong and Master Lum Weng Kong will be hosting the workshop and sharing their knowledge on the art form.

Yong is the president of SIA while Lum is well-known for his horse-inspired art.

Yong has participated in numerous group and individual calligraphy exhibitions, receiving many awards for his paintings. Lum, on the other hand, is a contemporary Chinese painter who gives structure and life to his artwork through his brush.

The workshop is sponsored by Sabah Institute of Art (SIA), supported by OurYouth.my and hosted by GEN. It is to be held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations and is aimed at raising awareness on the beauty of Chinese ink painting.

The organisers said the event will be an eye-opening experience for Chinese art lovers and the public.

The free workshop hosted by Lum will be conducted from 10am to 12pm while Yong’s workshop will be held from 2pm to 4pm.

Those interested to attend are advised to register by Thursday and to bring along their own brush, ink or water colour during the workshop.

Meanwhile, an Art Gallery will also be launched on the same day featuring Yong at 4.30pm.

Yong will be demonstrating his Chinese ink painting technique on the day, and will auction off the resulting art piece with all proceeds going to charity. The proceeds will be split evenly between Hope Place and the Kuching Life Care Society.

The art gallery sale will run for one month. The first piece of artwork by Yong will be available from RM3,000 and the rest will be priced between RM5,000 and RM8,000.

OurYouth.my director cum founder Dato Patrick Liew and GEN Group CEO cum founder Datuk Joseph Hii were present during a press conference yesterday to promote Saturday’s event.
