KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants the rakyat (people) to take protective measures to avoid getting heat-related illnesses during the current hot spell.

“The current prolonged hot weather is expected to hit the country for a while and I hope all of you will take protective measures to stay healthy and avoid getting heat-related illnesses,” he said in his latest entry on his Facebook and Twitter sites.

Several areas in the country are now experiencing hot and dry weather as the monsoon season eases out and the situation is expected to continue until the end of March.

According to Meteorological Department director-general Datuk Che Gayah Ismail, the current weather condition has not reached the heat wave level and is still categorised as normal.

Maximum temperatures in Malaysia currently hover between 33 and 35 degrees Celcius. — Bernama
