KUCHING: The High Court here yesterday adjourned to March 13 an appeal hearing for two accused convicted for robbery and sentenced to 36 months’ jail and a lashing each.

Justice Yew Jen Kiew fixed the date after both appellants, Ademan Nawi Jamaain,27, and Mohamad Johari Narawi, 24, said they would engage a defence counsel for the appeal hearing.

Ademan and Mohamad Johari were found guilty of robbing two men while armed with a knife at the State Museum compound last year.

They took away cash and mobile phones from the victims.

Both appellants were arrested around 9.30pm on Dec 15 in front of the public toilets at Kuching Waterfront, less than two hours after committing the offence.

Both of them were convicted under Section 395 of the Penal Code that provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping.
