MIRI: A driver died on the spot after he crashed his car into a tree at Km2 Jalan Miri-Bintulu early yesterday morning, with his passenger hurt but safe.

Eight fire-fighters from Miri Fire Station dashed to the scene to extricate both victims who were pinned down under their seats.

In the 2am incident, the car was wrapped around the tree, leaving the two men in pain, trapped inside the wreck.

The deceased was identified as Kenny Khiew Shu Ling, 27, while his passenger, Khieven Lee, 20, was safe but sustained bodily injuries.

It took firemen about 15 minutes to extricate both victims from the wreck.

According to the police source, the car was heading towards the city centre from Taman Delight, before the vehicle suddenly went out of control when approaching a sharp curve and crashed into the tree.

However, police is still investigating the actual cause of the incident.

Kenny’s body has been sent to Miri hospital for a post-mortem.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, when contacted yesterday, confirmed receiving a report on the accident.
