KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was offered a taste of Kuching with Mira Cake House’s special layer cake during a walkabout at the waterfront of Kampung Gersik-Boyan-Sorabaya here yesterday.

The ‘Sabok Tun Razak’ traditional layer cake was specially created to welcome the premier who arrived here yesterday evening for a three-day visit to Sarawak. A large crowd including villagers gathered at the jetty hoping to catch a glimpse of the prime minister who travelled to the kampung in a ‘perahu tambang’ (sampan) from Kuching Waterfront.

According to operator Ahmad Budiyaman Fauzi, the specially crafted layer cake consisted of 12 layers made with the rich flavours of Nestum, Horlick, kaya and chocolate.

After visiting Mira Cake House, Najib who was accompanied by a huge entourage of senior ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar had a drink at Medan Selera.

Earlier on, Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor were welcomed at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and his wife Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, Jabu and his wife Puan Sri Empiang Jabu, members of the State Cabinet, heads of government departments and various community leaders.

Last night, Najib opened the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) at Jalan Bukit Mata here.

Today, Najib is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the new Sri Aman Hospital that will have more than 100 beds with modern amenities, replacing the existing hospital that has been in operation since 1959.

Adenan and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam are expected to attend the event. After that, the prime minister is scheduled to leave for Beladin in Betong Division to launch the construction of Beladin Community Hall. He will attend Friday prayers at Rahmaniah Mosque in Kampung Seberang Pusa Asal in Pusa sub-district. At 3pm, he is scheduled to open the Slabi Water Treatment Plant in Serian. Meanwhile, Rosmah is scheduled to attend a post-flood aid programme organised by the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) and the Malaysian Girl Guides Association at the Samarahan Civic Centre at 2.30pm today. Tonight, Najib is scheduled to attend a Chinese New Year reception organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) at the Kuching Community Hall in Padungan at 8.30pm.

Tomorrow, Najib is scheduled to go on a walkabout in Kubah Ria here before handing out compassionate aid to flood victims there.
