Bintulu make serious bid for Maksak title

BINTULU: The Bintulu team has issued a warning to the other 11 teams vying for this year’s Government Staff Welfare, Sports & Recreation Council (Maksak) inter-division football title.

The tournament starts in Miri today.

Bintulu team manager Herman Lanying Tingang said his players have trained hard and are fully prepared to give a serious challenge in the tournament.

“All players are looking good and no injuries,” he said when met at the training session at BDA flat field on Thursday.

46 players underwent training from Feb 3 – 25 before the final 18 were selected to make the team.

Herman disclosed that all the selected players have shown a high level of determination and discipline.

So he is targeting his players to enter the final stage of the competition.

Meanwhile, Maksak Bintulu secretary Muhammad Dino Amid said he preferred to consider their team as the ‘underdog.’

“But I am confident with the ability of the team manager who has a very good track record will be able to guide the team to another successful outing,” he added.

The Bintulu team comprises Di-Hata Gobel, Wilses Willy, Mohd Isquandar Saudi, Mazlan Abu, Roslan Dris, Mohammad Zaidi, Mohd Firdause Razali, Fernando Shouldice, Mohammad Iqbal
Mohd Kassim, Velentine Surat James, Abdullah Tuah, Naini Ahmad, Mohd Hamid Abdul Ghani, Rosli Suhaili, Laiseh Yor, Paul Hajong, Mani Ukin and Hamdani Ahmad (the last eight are veterans).
