SEPANG: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department will implement an automatic barrier movement security system at every entry and exit point of the Customs Security Area, beginning Jan 1 next year.
Customs Director-General, Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad said 127 security systems would be installed at the exit and entry points at airport and major ports throughout the country.
“With this system, the gate pass which has been printed or downloaded by the importer, delivery or transport agent, is scanned at the barcode reader which has been installed and used as a document permitting entry and exit from Customs Security Areas.
“At present, the uCustoms system is almost 60 per cent developed and is expected to be fully set-up by November this year,” he told the media after launching the Ucustoms Autogate System here yesterday.
He said the advantage of the new system was that it not only facilitated the movement of cargo at all entry and exit points at the airports and major ports throughout the country, but also lessened human intervention.
“After this system has been implemented, the integrity of the customs will improve as interaction between the customs officer and those who go through the process of entering and leaving is reduced,” he said. — Bernama
