Duo charged with receiving stolen vehicles

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were separately charged at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for dishonestly receiving stolen vehicles.

In the first case, Shahiful Azman, 30, pleaded guilty before magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar to the offence which he committed in Putatan on November 11, last year.

The car belonged to one Abdul Rahim.

During mitigation, Shahiful asked that he be given a light sentence as he had to take care of his wife and asked that the court showed him mercy.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat asked that a deterrent sentence be meted out on the accused.

In the second case, Jayme Rahman claimed trial to a similar act of receiving a stolen motorcycle.

He committed the offence on February 17, in an open area at Kampung Sembulan.

Azaman proposed a bail of RM5,000 with two local sureties.

The court set March 11 for case management and allowed Jayme bail of RM3,000 with two local sureties.

The offence, under Section 411 of the Penal Code, provides for a maximum prison term of five years and a fine.

The same court then fined a man RM1,800, in default five months’ imprisonment for possessing illegal gambling items.

Ng Yun Fah, 28, pleaded guilty to the offence which he committed at a a pedestrian walkway in Menggatal Town on February 25, at 5:30pm.

The offence provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both as stated in the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
