KK Hokkiens urged to work together

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Hokkien Association president Datuk Clement Yeh has urged the committee and members to unite and work hand in hand to achieve the association’s goals in this new year.

Yeh expressed his gratitude towards the executive committee, Youth and Women members of the association for their hard work in the past year.

“They have truly demonstrated the tenacity of Hokkien folks,” he said during the association’s Chinese New Year dinner at Sekolah Menengah Kian Kok here on Thursday.

Organizing chairlady Datuk Mary Ling said despite several unfortunate incidents that happened in 2014, the overall situation in our country was still considered stable.

Ling said however that the country was entering a complex year from the economic point of view as we faced the depreciation of the Ringgit coupled with the implementation of the six per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) starting this year.

Hence, she encouraged members to innovate to keep up with the times as they entered a year filled with challenges and opportunities.

The event also saw the presentation of ang pows to members above 65 years old and special gifts to elderly members over 90 years old.
