KUCHING: Police in Sri Aman recently uncovered a new trend in cyber gambling, in which customers engaged in illegal activities using tablet devices provided by operators.

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mat Jusoh Mohammad said two recent raids by police saw the arrest of 13 persons and the seizure of 14 tablet devices installed with online gambling software.

“The first raid took place at a five-foot-way of a coffee shop at Jalan Club around 8.30pm on Wednesday, which saw six men arrested and six tablets seized.

“A woman, who is believed to be the caretaker, was also detained and found in possession of RM381,” said Mat Jusoh.

A second raid was conducted at 9pm at a computer gaming shop at Sri Jaya Park, which saw five men, including a caretaker, arrested for similar activities.

Police also seized eight tablets  which contained online gambling software and RM134 from the premises.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 45, were subsequently detained under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for investigation.

Mat Jusoh went on to warn that the Sri Aman police would continue with raids against such activities in the district.
