TAWAU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) plans to diversify its training exercise by involving the public in different scenarios and at wider places in the east coast of Sabah, which may be expanded to the west coast (Kota Kinabalu).

The director of the Security and Public Order Department, Dato Muhammad Fuad Abu Zarim said they plan to have its training exercise at one or two districts, which may have a probable occurrence in Kota Kinabalu, adding that they had started their training exercise in small areas before proceeding to wider regions with higher populations.

Fuad told the media this in a press conference at Tawau Police Station here yesterday morning before officiating at the closing ceremony of Ex Pasak II (training exercise).

The training exercise will be continued either in Lahad Datu, Semporna or Kudat, he said.

“During the two-day exercise, the community has been very welcoming to us as an enforcement team here to maintain their safety and wellbeing. It was a good approach where the residents and villagers here are ready to cooperate with us.

“However, we will continue to study and improve on any weaknesses or shortage throughout this exercise in terms of assets, Standard Operation Procedures (SOP), contingency preparation process and so on,” Fuad pointed out.

According to Fuad, the department may carry out such exercises at the coastal areas for the next step and he hoped the people do not have doubts about their capabilities.
